We all get them – those INCREDIBLY LOW coupon offers to clean your air ducts form $19.00 to $149.00 whole house cleaning with unlimited vents!!! Does this sound too good to be true? If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Many customers have called us while some of these “bait-and-switch” companies were still in their homes asking us if we would be able to offer a second opinion. These customers had succumbed to an enticing offer like, “Whole House Package-$19.00 to $149.00, Unlimited Vents up to a single furnace.”
Several scenarios are repeated over and over. One that we often hear is that these whole house packages actually only pertains to vent or register cleaning with absolutely NO air duct cleaning involved. Some of those ads include only supply vents, what about the return vents? , main ducts? , air handler unit? – The coupon misleads you. When the tech is in the home though, he will offer, “But for a nominal additional charge of $1900.00, we can clean all the air ducts too.”
Some of these companies claim to have found MOLD, which will then cost an additional $2400 to clean, and yet if you say “No”, they will offer to do it for only $1500, or only $700 after you refuse once again. Does that sound like the kind of sales tactic a reputable company uses? Is that the kind of company you would like to do business with?
Here are 10 questions you should ask BEFORE inviting any duct cleaner in to your home:
1) Does your company certified by NADCA to preformed duct cleaning? (confirm that by getting the company’s zip code and log in to www.nadca.com)
2) Are you member of the BBB and angie’s list with good scoring review (ask for a proof)?
3) Does the company ASCS certified? (Air System Cleaning Specialist)
4) Does the company VSMR certified? (Ventilation System Mold Remediator)
5) Do you provide an inspection of before and after that I can see the actual result of the cleaning?
6) Is the price you’re advertising is the price I can expect for a complete job?
7) What kind of a equipment do you use to do the work? (Ask if your electricity at home will be used, if the answer is YES, it will be done with a portable vacuum such as a shop vac -NOT RECOMMENDED!!-Proper cleaning should be done with GAS ENGINE equipment only!
8) Can you provide me some references of former customers?
9) Inquire whether the company uses employees or subcontractors and if their vehicle will have the company’s logo on it
10) Does the company can provide comprehensive liability insurance?
